Fishing Reports: Daily Photos & Information
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!!! Last Friday we had a great day of fishing on our 8-5 trip at the Triangle wrecks. We had a great catch of Sea Bass up to 4 lbs a few Flounder and the big Bluefish showed up. We had some Bluefish up to 15 lbs.
With a bad forecast for Saturday, we moved our deep drop trip to Sunday. Sea Bass Fishing was fantastic! With some up to 6 lbs. The Blueline tiles didn’t cooperate, although we did catch some up to 18 lbs.
We have added a 8:00am to 5:00pm trip next Sunday December 8th.
We had an offshore charter Friday with Mr. Tracey Brooks. With a small weather window we set out that morning mainly targeting Sea Bass! The bite was on!! Lots of big Sea Bass up to 6 lbs! With everyone finishing up their limit on the Bass we headed further out to catch some Blueline Tiles! That fishing was also good! with Tilefish up to 15 lbs. We also had several Trigger fish and one large Flounder! All in all a great day for the guys!!
What a beautiful weekend! And GREAT fishing! Because of the sea bass closure right now, The Rudee Angler is our only boat that has a RSA permit and is able to keep Sea Bass. The deep drop trip Saturday had a great catch of Blueline Tiles with some nice Sea Bass mixed in. We also had a couple of Snowy Grouper in the mix.
The Triangle Trip on Sunday had a good catch of Sea Bass and there are still some Flounder and Trigger Fish mixed in!
We have added 2 more 8:00am – 5:00pm trips to our calendar on Sunday November 3rd and Sunday November 10th!
The Rudee Angler thought that they had had a great trip on Thursday, but their 17-hour trip on Saturday October 5th proved to be even more successful. Again, the weather was absolutely perfect and the water was completely slick and calm. The catch of Blue Line Tile Fish was incredible, with limits caught and Mr. Tracy Brooks reeled in the biggest Blue Line Tile catch at 19 pounds 2 ounces. There were a few catches of Sea Bass and then the Angler decided to go looking for some more action. The Angler came across some great Grouper and Golden Tile Fish catches. The Grouper came in at up to 40 pounds and the Golden Tile up to 35 pounds.
While the Angler was having a great day, so was the Mariner out on their 9-hour trip. The Mariner spent the day out at The Triangles and had great catches of Flounder, Trigger and Sea Bass. The calendar on our page is up to date so be sure to check that out and give us a call to reserve your spot!
The Rudee Angler took a 17-hour trip on October 3rd and had a great day. Not only was the weather beautiful and the water slick calm, but the fish were biting phenomenally. The catch of Blueline Tile fish was some of the best that we have had in quite some time. There were Blueline tile citations and limits caught all day, and weighing up to 19 pounds. The Sea Bass were also biting great and weighing up to 4 pounds.
Our Flounder fishing on our 8-2 and 8-5 trips has dropped off some due to the winds last week, but we are hoping it picks back up soon. For now, the Trigger fish and Sea Bass are biting great, so give us a call to make your reservations!
On Sunday September 15th, the Rudee Angler set out for a 17-hour trip put together by Mr. Tracy Brooks. The weather could not have cooperated more giving the anglers slick calm water and blue skies. There were limits of Blue Line Tile Fish up to 17 pounds, and most fish were in the 14-15 pound range. Great catch of Seabass weighing up to about 4.5 pounds. However, the catches of the day had to have been the 2 White Marlin. One Marlin was released and one was kept, but both Marlins were believed to be around 50 pounds or so. Overall it was a great day out on the water and the fish could not have been biting better!
On August 27th and 28th the Rudee Angler took a trip out with Mark Davis, the host of “Big Water Adventure” to do some filming for his show that runs on the outdoor channel. This trip was to film a special about deep dropping in Virginia Beach and will air toward the end of January. The crew aboard the Rudee Angler those days came back with some great footage for the show, but also some great catches. While there were many impressive catches, there were two that really stood out. To begin with, Mark Davis ended up catching the biggest Blue Line Tile Fish of his life that weighed just a little over 17 pounds. As if that was not impressive enough, shortly after the crew caught and pulled in a 115-pound Swordfish! Overall, it was another successful trip aboard the Rudee Angler. We will make sure to get the website updated with when the show will be airing!
On August 29th, the Rudee Angler ventured out for another 17-hour deep drop trip. The weather acted like it would hold for the trip but as the day went on the Northeast wind began to pick up and conditions got choppy. Because of this, the Angler did not make it all the way out to the deep. However, they still had some impressive catches. The Sea Bass and Blue Line Tile Fish did not disappoint! Great catches of Sea Bass were had by all and they also had some Blue Line Tile Fish weighing up to 14 pounds. This trip concluded our regular 17-hour deep drops but we have a lot more great trips on the schedule!
Our half-day fishing trips are still running and will continue to run until September 14th. While they are still catching small to medium size Croaker, they are getting a lot of them! Check our “Schedule & Rates” tab to find a day to join us!

We will also have two 17-hour deep drops scheduled for October 3rd and 17th. Again, check out our “Schedule & Rates” tab above to find a day to join us on one of these great trips!
On August 8th, the Rudee Angler set off at 3:00 AM for our weekly 17- hour deep drop trop. It was a beautiful, calm day with some light Southeast winds. After the four-hour journey to the Norfolk Canyon, our eager fishermen dropped their lines at depths of about 300 feet. Here, we reeled in many Blue Line Tile Fish and Sea Bass. The catch of the day was a beautiful 14- pound Blue Line Tile! The Sea Bass weighed in at about 4 pounds! We were unable to go to the deeper waters that stretch to about 600 feet because the current was too strong. So we decided to stay in the shallower waters and continue catching the Blue Line Tile Fish and the Sea Bass. It was a very successful day aboard the Rudee Angler! Our fishermen came in with coolers overflowing with fish! We do have three more 17-hour deep drops this summer so give us a call if you would like to make a reservation for one of our future trips! We also have half-day trips that run from 8:00 AM- 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM- 5:30 PM every day for the rest of the summer. Starting in September, we are starting to run our 8:00 AM- 2:00 PM, 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM, and 40- hour trips. We switched our 36- hour trips to 40- hour trips and the price did have to rise slightly because of the price of fuel. If you want to make a reservation for any of these trips starting in the fall, give us a call between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM every day at 757-425-3400.
On Saturday, July 27, 2013, the Rudee Angler set out for a special 19-hour private charter deep drop trip to the Norfolk Canyon. It was a beautiful, calm summer day with just some light winds. After the four- hour journey out about 70 miles, the fishermen eagerly dropped their lines to see what the Norfolk Canyon had to offer this trip. The Rudee Angler spent most of the time in the shallower depths, where the fishermen reeled in many Blue Line Tile Fish and Sea Bass. The Blue Line Tile Fish maxed out at about 15 pounds and the biggest Sea Bass weighed in at about 4 pounds. We then spent a little time in the deeper waters of about 800 feet where the Black Belly Rose Fish were in abundance. It was another beautiful and successful private charter off-shore trip for the Rudee Angler! In addition to our deep drop trips, we also have half-day fishing trips that run every day from 8:00 AM- 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM-5:30 PM. We offer night fishing trips as well that run from 6:00 PM- 9:30 PM every Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. We do not offer reservations for these trips; it is first come, first served. We recommend that you show up at least 30 minutes prior to purchase your tickets. If you are interested in making a reservation for our weekly 17-hour deep drop trips or if you have any other questions, you can give us a call everyday between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM at 757-425-3400.
